Review endorses council approach to roads鈥 resurfacing

Focusing roads鈥 maintenance expenditure on improving roads classified as 鈥榓mber鈥 as well as  鈥榬ed鈥 is good practice and more cost-effective by avoiding greater expenditure by leaving the road condition to deteriorate further. This was one of the conclusions made by a review panel for the Audit and Scrutiny Committee, which considered how the Operations Team prioritised roads maintenance work, how surfacing methods used were determined and what other technologies had been considered. Other findings included:

拢50million investment secured for 九秀直播 and Bute

九秀直播 has welcomed the announcement of a 拢50million Rural Growth Deal as a 鈥榯ransformational vote of confidence鈥 in the area. The council has been championing a deal for 九秀直播 and Bute with the UK and Scottish Governments, based on a number of projects developed with public and private sector partners. Today (Wednesday 2 October) the UK and Scottish Governments announced investment of 拢25million each in 九秀直播 and Bute.

Teaching in 九秀直播 and Bute - the best of both worlds

When Louise Nicol was given the opportunity to work as a supply teacher at Rothesay Joint Campus on a temporary, three month basis, she jumped at the chance. Much to Louise鈥檚 delight, the position got extended and, 22 years later, she is still working at the school and has moved up the ranks to become head teacher. Louise started her teaching career at Trinity High School in Renfrew, where she worked as an English teacher, before making the move to Bute in 1997.

Help for local businesses

Free training is available for local businesses in everything from book keeping to social media and video production. The council鈥檚 Business Gateway Service delivers training designed to help businesses start-up and grow. It takes place in locations across 九秀直播 and Bute and covers a wide range of topics. The council鈥檚 Policy Lead for Economic Growth, Councillor Alastair Redman, encouraged local businesses to take advantage of the support available.

Council leader meets Cabinet Secretary to discuss population decline

Councillor Aileen Morton and representatives from seven other councils met Scottish Cabinet Secretary Fiona Hyslop at Holyrood this week to discuss population decline. When the NRS (National Records of Scotland) published their population projections early in 2018, the leader of 九秀直播 decided that the continuing and increasing west coast depopulation trend needed action.
