Additional traffic management measures are now in place in Campbeltown.
A new warden, to cover Mid ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥, Kintyre and the Islands, will be available to spend more time addressing concerns raised by members of the public about irresponsible parking in the town.
Parking rules have not been enforced regularly for some time and so there will be a short period where those people who park contrary to legislation are likely to be given a letter reminding them of the regulations, rather than being issued with a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN).
This information period will last until Monday 3 March, after which people will be issued with PCNs if they park where they should not.
Councillor John Armour, Policy Lead for Roads, Transport and Amenity Services, said: “I, like so many other local residents, am aware of difficulties caused by parking in areas where it is not allowed. This extra resource will help tackle that, although it is not a silver bullet. We still rely on people being responsible and thinking about other road users.
“While this will also help alleviate traffic congestion it is important that the traffic flow in the town centre is also looked at. Having the new Warden in place can help officers and local members work together to formulate a plan that can help reduce the issues being raised by the public and local businesses. Traffic management ensures that the parking available is used fairly, safely and vehicles keep moving.â€
