Young people’s views at the heart of new education vision for ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ and Bute

Learning life skills, a love and respect for the outdoors, being respectful and self-improvement are just some of the priorities for young people across ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ and Bute who have provided essential insight as part of an Education consultation, that looks to shape the future of education services.

¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ asked for feedback to help refresh its education vision and strategy that will help shape the future of education services for children and young people.

The consultation for the new Education Strategy, Our Children, Their Future, launched in December 2023 and closed in February 2024. It attracted 661 online responses and 64 responses from group sessions with staff, parents/carers, children and young people, and wider partners.

As part of the consultation, these key participants played an important role in reviewing the existing strategy and sharing their views on what is important going forward. Read the results from the consultation in an interactive report .

The report is also available in Gaelic

Consultees focused on the current key values of ambition, excellence and equality across education and the six current outcomes underpinning the vision. They include:

  1. Raise educational attainment and achievement for all
  2. Use performance information to secure improvement for children and young people
  3. Ensure children have the best start in life and are ready to succeed.
  4. Equip young people to secure and sustain positive destinations and achieve success in life
  5. Ensure high quality partnership working and community engagement
  6. Strengthen leadership at all levels.

Councillor Audrey Forrest, Policy Lead for Education:

“Thank you to everyone who helped prepare the consultation and for all of your valuable feedback. Your voice matters and will help shape ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ and Bute’s education service for young people and children now and for future generations. Our priority is to ensure that our children and young people benefit from an education service that works for every pupil.

Ensuring children have the best start in life and are ready to succeed is central to everything we deliver in education and I’m pleased that so many of you agree with this core theme.

Our new vision will determine how we deliver our services and how we work together, in partnership to secure the best outcomes for young people across ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ and Bute.â€

¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ will now arrange to work with a number of engagement groups including primary and secondary pupils and parents to further develop the refreshed vision and strategy and determine the format of the final strategy.

Councillors will consider the final draft at full Council, early next year.
