¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ is holding a by-election for one vacancy in Ward 2, Kintyre and the Islands, on Thursday 18 July 2024.
Voters in Kintyre and the Islands will be asked to elect one councillor to represent the local communities which make up Ward 2.
To take part in this election, you must be registered to vote in the Kintyre and the Islands area. If you are not sure whether you are registered, you can check with the Electoral Registration Office on 01586 555300. They can send you out a registration form if you need one. You can also - it is quick and easy to do.
You also have choices about how you cast your vote. If you can’t get to a polling station on the day, you can apply for a postal vote. You can also apply for a proxy vote, where someone casts your vote on your behalf.
With a UK General Election also taking place in July, there are different deadlines for registering to vote and applying for postal or proxy votes.
For voters in the Kintyre and the Islands area who want to take part in both elections, it is especially important to be aware of the different deadlines, and to know where and how you can access your voting choices.
You can apply for a postal vote for all types of election by downloading and completing an application form and sending it to your local Electoral Registration Office. This can cover the UK General Election and the local by-election, providing you select those options on the form. You then need to send the form to the Electoral Registration Office – see below for contact details.
For a postal vote, for example, voters in Kintyre and the Islands would need to get their application to the Electoral Registration Office by 19 June to cover both the General Election and the local by-election. The table below has a full list of deadline dates and links.
It’s important to note that if you want to use a proxy vote in both the UK General Election and the Ward 2 by-election you will need to make separate applications using the specific links shown below. There are different deadlines and places to apply for proxy votes. See the table below for full details for each election.
