Council issues Glenmorag car park warning

Please remove any trailers, caravans, boats or motorhomes in the next fifteen days or risk having them removed - that is the warning from ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥.

The council has issued the warning to anyone who abandons vehicles at the Glenmorag car park in Dunoon. The move follows complaints from local residents who have witnessed an increase in vehicles left for long periods of time in the car park.

The council is acting under the Refuse Disposal (Amenity) Act 1978 section 3.1 that enables local authorities to remove abandoned vehicles and arrange for their disposal. Under the act, it is a criminal offence to abandon a vehicle without lawful authority.

The council will place notices on trailers and caravans. Registered owners are also receiving notices through the post to remove their vehicles within 15 days or risk them being removed and disposed of.

As the car park is subject to a traffic regulation order, it is illegal to store unattached caravans, trailers or boats.

There is a charge of £300 for removal and disposal as per The Removal, Storage and Disposal of Vehicles (Prescribed Sums and Charges etc.)(Scotland) Regulations 2005.

Councillor Andrew Kain, Policy Lead for Roads and Infrastructure:

“After receiving a number of complaints from local residents, who are tired of seeing lines of caravans and trailers for long periods of time, we are taking action.

This is a public car park and not a private storage facility. We’re asking anyone who is using the car park to store vehicles including caravans, boats and trailers, to remove it in the next fifteen days or risk losing them. We want to avoid removing and destroying vehicles so please find alternative storage. Thank you for your assistance. â€

*Permissions should be in place prior to storing vehicles at alternative locations. Please do not move these vehicles to a space owned, controlled or managed by ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥.

If you would like to discuss removing your vehicle, contact the council by emailing roadsandinfrastructure@argyll-bute.gov.uk
