Do a bucket load of good

Helensburgh and Lomond residents are being encouraged to ‘do a bucket load of good’ by using free food caddies to turn food waste into green energy and compost.

¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥â€™s new campaign aims to increase the number of residents using their free food caddies to help reduce household waste and carbon emissions. Many people are already using food caddies with the council collecting over 550 tonnes of food waste every year. More people are now encouraged to make the most from their food waste.

Using the food waste recycling service can reduce household waste by 65%, stops food going into landfill and will help the journey to net zero carbon emissions by 2045.

Anyone living in Helensburgh and Lomond can order a free 7-litre kitchen caddy and 23-litre outdoor food waste bin. Compostable caddy liners are also free.

Simply line your indoor caddy, empty food waste here and take it out to your outdoor food waste caddy, ready for our weekly collections.

How do I order my free food caddies?

Order your free food waste caddies on the council website -

Order free liners via the council website -  /helensburgh-and-lomond or tie a liner bag to the handle of your caddy and the waste team will deliver more.

Councillor Ross Moreland, Policy Lead Climate Change and Environmental Services:

“Its fantastic to see so many people in the Helensburgh and Lomond area already using their food waste caddies, but we would love to increase this number. Every scrap of food you put in the food caddy contributes to a greener environment, turning waste into clean energy and compost.

Our teams have a weekly collection, all you need to do is empty your internal caddy into your outside one and we’ll do the rest. As we all do our bit to create a climate friendly ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ and Bute, if you don’t already use a food caddy, please get in touch and do a bucket load of good for the planet.â€
