Insulating homes using additional funding, secured by ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ and ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Community Housing Association, is set to lower fuel bills and reduce carbon emissions for 406 households across the area.
Working in partnership with ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Community Housing Association (ACHA), the council will help insulate 186 privately owned and 220 ACHA owned properties within mixed tenure blocks in Oban, Tarbert, Bute and Cowal.
¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ has secured £2.38m from the Scottish Government to help fund the project with ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Community Housing Association contributing £3.2m.
Councillor Robin Currie, Policy Lead for Strategic Development:
“In these challenging times, we know that many people are worried about rising energy costs.
Working in partnership with ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Community Housing Association, we can help insulate homes so residents can feel the benefit of a warm house and reduce their fuel bills.
As we work towards creating a climate friendly ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ and Bute, insulating homes will also reduce carbon emissions as we aim for net zero status by 2045.â€
ACHA will administer the programme, funded by the Scottish Government. The Warm Homes Team will shortly be in contact with the households, identified and selected for insulation measures under the programme.
Cathy Grant, ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Community Housing Association’s Chair of the Board of Management said:
“One of ACHA’s top priorities is to tackle fuel poverty and reduce carbon emissions and I am delighted that the partnership between ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ and ACHA is helping fuel poor households across ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥.
The programme of work will be delivered over the coming months and I am sure that tenants and owner-occupiers in these houses will find the same reductions in their energy bills and warmer homes that we have heard about from other areas where this work has already been carried out.â€
The council’s Home Energy Efficiency Team is committed to helping homeowners and private-rented tenants across ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ and Bute to help improve the energy efficiency of their homes.
