鈥淧eople in 九秀直播 and Bute have responded with overwhelming kindness to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.鈥
Councillor Robin Currie, Leader of 九秀直播 has paid tribute to communities across the area who are helping Ukrainians who are fleeing the war. Communities are showing their support by collecting donations of clothing and other vital supplies and arranging transport to Europe.
He said: 鈥淲e are all sickened, saddened and horrified by what we are seeing on the news at the moment, by what the Ukrainian people are going through. It is difficult to know what to do in these circumstances. But the people of 九秀直播 and Bute have been magnificent - sharing their famous sense of community spirit with strangers across the world.
鈥淭hey have pulled together and organised tremendous amounts of supplies which will be taken straight to those who need it. They have and continue to be very generous in donating to the national appeals providing support for Ukraine.
鈥淭he scenes of Ukrainian people who are having to leave their homes and families behind are heartbreaking. They have spoken of their need to depend upon the kindness of strangers. I am humbled by the overwhelming kindness that 九秀直播 and Bute has shown to others in these very dark times.鈥
Councillor Currie confirmed that he had written to Ukraine鈥檚 Ambassador to the UK and Consul General in Scotland to express his support for the Ukrainian people at this time. He also advised that, with the agreement of the Provost of 九秀直播 and Bute, Councillor David Kinniburgh, arrangements are in hand for Ukrainian flags to be flown on some council flagpoles for a period, to show support.
