Have your say on free period products

Free period products such as tampons, pads and reusable products will soon be more wildly available for anyone in ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ and Bute who needs them.

¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ is seeking views on how to make sure everyone who uses period products, or who will use them in the future, can access this service in a way that suits them.

The free provision of period products consultation will help shape the existing service and identify any further opportunities to help people who require free products. The consultation is available on the Council website /consultations/free-period-product-provision and closes on 4 March 2022.

The Council has already made free sanitary products available in a number of public buildings, leisure centres, schools and libraries in the area, as part of a drive to tackle period poverty.

Funded by the Scottish Government, the initiative aims to ensure that products are available to those who need them in a dignified way, and that everyone who menstruates can have the products they need.

There is now a legal duty on councils to ensure that free items are available to anyone. The consultation will help to shape the way in which ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ and Bute delivers this service. Read more about the Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Act 2021

Councillor Yvonne McNeilly, Policy Lead for Education:

“I’m proud that ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ and Bute already makes period products available across all Council buildings and schools. The consultation will help shape how we build on this service and deliver products, in a way that suits anyone who needs them. Please do get in touch and let us know your feedback.â€
