Investment announced for Mull and Kerrera

Car parking and new visitor facilities on Mull, and a new road on Kerrera will benefit from a share of £600,000 announced by ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥.

This investment comes from the council’s share of Scottish Crown Estate funding, intended to deliver benefits for coastal communities based on four key priorities: the environment, community, climate change and economic development.

Councillor Rory Colville, Policy Lead for Roads and Infrastructure said:

“This is all about making life better for people now and in the longer term. These investments are intended to support people’s day-to-day lives and also help develop a sustainable local economy.â€

The funding will be used for:

  • Tobermory Carpark and Staycation Facilities: a funding contribution towards building a new carpark on council land on the entrance to the village with the aim of easing visitor pressure on the village centre.
  • Kerrera Road: council capital contribution towards building a forest grade road connecting the north and south of the island, already supported by the Scottish Government and a longstanding aim of the community.

Chair of the Oban Lorne and the Isles Area Committee, Councillor Elaine Robertson said:

“This is excellent news for our islands. These are projects that matter to local people and will help sustain life on the islands in the longer term by supporting them as places to enjoy living, and places to benefit from the advantages of tourism, when restrictions allow of course.â€â€¦
