People living in the Burgh of Oban are being invited to apply for funding from the town’s John of Lorn Bequest.
When John McDougall, MRCVS passed away in 1947, he bequeathed money to what was then known as Oban Town Council. This money was to be used to benefit poor people living in the area, and was to be distributed in whichever manner the town council deemed best.
At a meeting of today’s Oban, Lorn and the Isles Area Committee, members agreed distribution arrangements for the fund, and the following eligibility criteria that must be met before applications will be considered:
- Anyone in receipt of a qualifying benefit (Jobseekers Allowance, Employment Support Allowance, Income Support or Universal Credit)
- Those who are employed/self-employed and are also in receipt of some amount of Universal Credit (a nil payment due to deductions for earned income would mean they do not qualify).
Successful applicants will receive £50, whilst families will be eligible for £100.
