Children at Kirn Primary have been spreading the Christmas spirit by organising a number of activities and goodwill gestures to show others they care.
In what has been a particularly difficult year for everyone, pupils organised a ‘Love in a Box’ campaign, whereby they put out an appeal for donations and filled more than 60 boxes with love, kindness and Christmas goodies, for people in their local community.
This was no easy task, with each box and its contents having to be thoroughly sanitised to adhere to Covid guidelines, but the children did it with a little bit of help from school staff, and primary seven pupils have been busy delivering them.
Pupils have also been tying messages of love and hope onto the school railings, to make people smile.
As a reward for their hard work, the children are being treated to a visit to the cinema this week, thanks to funding from the Parent Teacher’s Association. Each night at 6.30pm a member of staff also reads pupils a bedtime Christmas story via video link. This will go on right up until Christmas Eve when the final story will be 'Twas the Night before Christmas'.
Head teacher at Kirn, Kirsteen Macdonald, said: “We are extremely fortunate to have such caring, kind-hearted pupils at our school. The children are a credit to their parents, and to our local community, and I am very proud to be their head teacher.
“We are also very lucky to be supported by the Local Church and Rotary. The groups have donated a substantial amount of money which will provide support that will help make the festive period an easier time for some of our families- something we’re very grateful for.â€
¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥â€™s Policy Lead for Education, Councillor Yvonne McNeilly, said: “Christmas is all about kindness and what the young people at Kirn have done is a shining example of that in action.
“Our ambition is for ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ and Bute to be the best place for our children and young people to grow up. I think it’s safe to say that, if all our young people are like those at Kirn Primary, we’re well on our way to achieving that. Thank you to each and every one of you.â€
