The catchment area for St Columba’s Primary School in Oban is to be widened.
The decision was made at today’s meeting of ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥â€™s Community Services Committee, and comes as a result of a formal request made by St Columba’s Parent Council.
St Columba’s is the only denominational school within 80 miles of Oban, but the current catchment area only covers Oban and Dunbeg. By expanding this, the school will now cover the same mainland catchment area as that of Oban High School.
The council’s Policy Lead for Education, Councillor Yvonne McNeilly said: “A full public consultation was carried out earlier this year which saw us engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including pupils. This is something which we felt was particularly important.
“We are committed to providing the best possible start for our children and young people, so it is vital that we listen to what they want and value their views and expectations.
“By expanding the catchment area, it means that children and their parents have more choice and will provide greater equity for children and families. I look forward to seeing things progress.â€
