Dunoon's Khiara wins national award for making a stand against racism

A talented young artist from Dunoon Grammar School has won a national award for a piece of artwork she created to make a stand against racism.

S1 pupil Khiara Dominick fought off stiff competition from thousands of entries across Scotland to win the S1-3 category in Show Racism the Red Card’s annual creative competition.

Joined by her family, Khiara attended a prestigious award ceremony at Hampden Park to collect her prize.

¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥â€™s Policy Lead for Education, Councillor Yvonne McNeilly: “There is no room for prejudice and discrimination and Khiara’s painting portrays this beautifully.

“This competition gave our young people the opportunity to make their voices heard and challenge negative attitudes through the power of creativity.

“I am truly delighted that Khiara won. We must continue to do everything we can to ensure Scotland is a fair and inclusive society.â€
