Fèisean funding secured for 2019/20

¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ has approved £20,000 funding to Fèisean nan Gàidheal, an organisation that supports the development of traditional music, Gaelic singing and Gaelic drama.

The support from the council enables Fèisean nan Gàidheal to lever in additional funding; every £1 of support received from the council, enables £5.40 spend on delivering Gaelic services in the area.

The council funding comes from Community Development (£15, 500) and Education Services’ Gaelic specific budget (£4500) and is for the year 2019/20.

Activity across our area includes supporting a number of Fèisean, ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Ceilidh Trail and ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Drama Festival.

Councillor Robin Currie, Policy Lead for Communities, Housing, Islands and Gaelic, said: “Fèisean nan Gàidheal does a great job of amplifying its council funding.

“The Gaelic language has played a huge part in the formation of ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ and Bute’s history and culture, and the preservation of the language and the encouragement of its usage is of vital importance. Fèisean nan Gàidheal’s range of activities not only keeps our heritage alive, but builds a sense of identity and confidence in our young folk.

“Long-term this has benefits for our communities, our economy and the future of ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ and Bute.â€
