North Pier pontoon visitors triple in June

A total of 933 vessel berth nights were spent at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥â€™s North Pier Pontoons, Oban, during June 2019.

That’s more than three times higher than the total number of berth nights clocked up at the pontoons during the same month in 2018.

The leap in the number of visitors, spending time in shops and restaurants, is great news for the Oban economy and cements its place as a ‘must visit’ location for sailors.

While 1335 people stepped ashore in June 2018, 2107 enjoyed the sights and sounds of Oban and surrounding area this year.

What’s more, the pontoons are operating at capacity most Friday and Saturday nights and it is anticipated that week-day stop overs will increase during the school holidays.

Councillor Aileen Morton, Council Leader and Policy Lead for Economic Development, said: “In the space of two years we’ve opened the pontoons and a fantastic maritime visitor facility on the North Pier. Our aim was to make it easy for maritime visitors to come to Oban. It seems we have achieved what we set out to do.

“The substantial investment in these first class facilities will attract new people and businesses and bring economic benefits to the town and the surrounding area for years to comeâ€
