X is for X-ray

¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ and NHS Highland in ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ and Bute have brought together all health services and all adult and children/families social work services, as the Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP).

Luanna Lamers is the Senior/CT Radiographer at Oban, Lorne and the Isles Hospital.

Providing 24/7 services to outpatients, inpatients and people attending the hospital’s A&E department, Luanna and her dedicated colleagues work hard to ensure people receive the highest quality of care.

She said: “X-rays are created by directing ionizing radiation through an area of the body to create pictures, and is most well-known for diagnosing fractures of bones. Approximately 70-80% of all hospital patients are referred to radiology for diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of conditions. It’s a really interesting job and, as technology has developed, x-rays have been modified to obtain more complex forms of imaging such as CT and interventional radiology.

I moved to Oban three years ago and I love it here. I really enjoy the variation of my work, the team atmosphere within our department and hospital, and most importantly, meeting patients. It truly is the great people we meet that make our role so enjoyable.â€
