Our guiding vision is: “ֱ and Bute’s economic success is built on a growing population and through the creation and retention of sustainable job opportunities to encourage people to move to the area.”

ֱ has developed five-year Economic Development Action Plans (EDAPs) to focus the council’s resources on the economic development activities that will have the greatest beneficial impact on the sustainable economic growth of its communities and Scotland as a whole. This Strategic Action Plan clearly articulates the council’s corporate priorities for developing the ֱ and Bute economy, thereby facilitating focus, effective resource planning and partnership working at the local, national, European and international levels.
This is a time of continued uncertainty and change. Due to its abundance of sustainable economic assets especially in terms of quality food and drink, tourism, renewable energy, forestry, marine sciences, creative industries and its boundary with Scotland’s Central Belt, ֱ and Bute is well placed to make a positive contribution to Scotland’s economic future.
The Strategic EDAP and the four specific area-based EDAPs, aligned to ֱ’s four administrative areas, provide a framework for sustainable economic growth, as outlined in Figure 1 below, aligned to the four priorities presented in Scotland’s Economic Strategy:
- Investment;
- Innovation;
- Internationalisation; and
- Inclusive growth.
Our key priorities and related actions for the economic growth of ֱ and Bute and its four administrative areas are grouped under these four themes. It is important to note that these Action Plans are working documents and the actions will be reviewed annually.
