Lochgilphead Town Centre Active Travel

Lochgilphead Town Centre to the Joint Campus Active Travel Designs.

Walk, Cycle Lochgilphead is a project aimed at improving the walking, wheeling and cycling experience between Lochgilphead Joint Campus and the town centre. The project is funded through the Sustrans administered Places for Everyone programme that seeks to make streets safer and more attractive for pedestrians and cyclists.

Public consultation

Civic Engineers were appointed by ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ to prepare a design that was in keeping with the principles set out in Cycling by Design and that would create a safer and more attractive route between the town centre and the Joint Campus for walking, wheeling and cycling.

A new round of public engagement on the updated designs has now begun and will run until 31st October 2023.

Project Background

A series of public consultation events were held in 2021 that sought the public’s opinion on design ideas for Lorne Street, Union Street and an improved path link between Manse Brae and Kilmory Road.

Following the initial public consultation additional funding was secured to progress the designs from the concept design stage onto the developed design stage. In 2022 ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ appointed Civic Engineers as the design team lead to produce a set of developed designs and drawings for the project.

The developed design that is now being presented is based on comments that were revived from the previous consultation, they key principles set out in Cycling by Design 2021 and through a collaborative working partnership between ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥, Sustrans and other key stakeholders.

This is an ongoing process and the comments that we receive on the developed design will be considered and reviewed by Civic Engineers in order to help them arrive at recommendation for the next stage in the process.
