Our responsibility to foster carers

We want to make sure that people who apply to become foster carers can take on the task at hand.  This is done through an assessment process that will demonstrate the skills you and your family have to provide the type of care our children require.

We ask applicants to be actively involved in this process.  When the assessment is completed, we submit a report to the Approval and Matching Panel for recommendation and the decision is made by Head of Service for Children and Families.  We aim to complete applications within six months.  Once carers are approved, they will need to sign a Carer’s Agreement which stipulates the responsibilities of the carer and the council.
